12/28 Upper Laguna
Heavy fog rolled Saturday morning causing a late start. Forecast stated it would clear up at 9am (definite lie), decided to launch and gave it to god and the gps. Headed for a shallow grass flat with nice sand holes and a near by drop off to 3-4ft. Started the morning with the Mansfield dart and changed to a 5in paddle that I felt more comfortable with fishing lower and slower. With the darker green water I started with a down south red flash progressively changing to draker colors (Mansfield marg, plum) until I got to a dark copper and black color called “color x” right as the major kicked up and caught this nice 25” trout slowly working over a sand pocket between the grass. She posed and was safely released back to her sand pocket home. First fish I caught on my new Laguna trident. The rest of the morning produced several small reds on the same copper color.

12/20 fished the Upper Laguna following Capt. James report from last week, and headed for a shallow flat directly adjacent to a deep drop off. Water temp was in the low 60’s with a NNW wind and nice cloud cover. Started the morning fishing a corky in waist deep water which was producing small 10-12” trout. Switched to a 5” paddle tail and worked the bottom and as the minor got closer, this turned up several good size 22 - 23” trout but could not find one to bust the 25” mark. Towards the end of the minor the flat came alive with ducks flying and mullet popping. Saw a nervous mullet jumping for his life and threw right behind him and hooked up with a nice 26” red. Caught these fish using the bates salty hundo I won on the live stream (thanks AU!) hands down best reel out there.
