This is going to be a game changer!
Just a cool pic of Dean Thomas and John Lopez this past weekend
We filmed a setting up a kid to wade in the winter video this week. If you notice in it, he doesn’t have any sort of tackle bag. If your kid can tie knots fast like Jace, I repeat, DO NOT GIVE HIM A TACKLE BAG, he will be swapping lures more than Gardner. lol.
This is a heck of a deal and the exact set I’ve worn for a couple years or so! Would call for size availability! Today and tomorrow at Angler’s Anonymous in Katy!
If you are going to be bracing the cold this weekend here is a few tips to make your trip successful and enjoyable. First off make sure you dress the part. Put on way more than you think you’ll need. You can always remove layers while on the water. Grab that old thermos is the back of the pantry and fill with with some coffee for my personal favorite chicken broth to keep yourself warm. Once you hit the bay start with the deeper water close to the flats you were catching your fish last week. Fish have tails and move bit they won’t go far from home. Soft plastics on heavy jig heads worked along the bottom will be exactly what I’ll be doing these next couple days. Be safe out there!

Laguna is holding a $30 raffle, 100 spots, 8 rods, if you’re interested!
My buddy Jeff and I found a few good ones last weekend and did good enough for 3rd place and a check in the Redfish Rumble!!!!
Pay attention to loons during the winter months they will give the fish away! They eat the same bait fish as trout and will help you lock in on smaller areas within a large flat. Here is a quick example...Â
About a month ago Compton and I pulled up to a large mud flat with scattered shell. I knew the fish were in the general location but it is a large area. We waded for about 20 min without a bite. I could see several looms diving down and coming back up about 150 yards away. I quickly picked him up and moved down. As soon as we got out in front of the loons we started catching fish.Â
I would like to officially enter Beau my 8 year old son into backlash/birds nest competition of 2025! He has been throwing a bait caster since 5.
The jig head is dented from hitting the pole the holds the light.
