When I used to fish up North in the land of loons, no one ever mentioned fishing under them. I wonder if they can help locate schools of walleye. 

Maybe I need to try fat boys. I have a hard time switching from soft plastics.

Minnowz are great if you superglue to the jig head. Durable with great action.

I use 10# braid so FG is worth it for strength. With 30# braid and a short leader FG may not be worth it. Surgeons knot is so easy to tie.

Approximately how deep was the water? Is there an approximate minimum and maximum depth? Maybe 2 to 10 feet?

Also, last time I was out in Cold Pass the gulls were mostly sitting on the water and didn’t seem to be eating much. I got nothing when I fished under them. Is it more likely that I didn’t get them to bite or that there were not any fish under the birds?
