Had a great day on the water with my son Keith and Captain Scott Null who agreed to jump on my boat and help me lay some tracks in POC. It was a huge help to learning how to navigate in and around the area. As a fairly new boat owner Scott also took the time to give me several tips on properly running my boat. It definitely helped that Scott had ran a Patriot before. It’s amazing how well he knows the bay and he doesn’t have a GPS on his poling Skiff. Thanks again Scott!!
My son made an interesting point today about the livestreams every Tuesday. It’s essentially like going out to dinner every Tuesday night with a guide and just having a conversation and learning as much as possible. Where the hell can you do that for $20 a month???? Man AU ROCKS!!
So on Friday I am taking a boat test ride as I am thinking about getting a Freedom Patriot. An 18’ boat with a. 140 Suzuki. Adding a power pole, simrad GPS, and a trolling motor. What are some things I need to look at , to check out? Other than being on a guides boat I haven’t been on anything but a Kayak. It was/is a hard decision. Hell for the price of a boat I could book like 60 guided fishing trip. Thank you and I let you how it goes. Any advice is very appreciated. Perry
Had a great day in the kayaks today. I had planned on going to East Matagorda but at the last minute decided to head to Texas Bayou. We caught a bunch of reds and trout. All the fish were caught on K Wiggler Wig A Lo in The Truth color on a 1/4 oz knotty Hooker Jig head. The water was in great shape, tide was slowly falling and I was surprised we didn’t seen any bait the entire day.
Started 2025 with a pretty decent day. Kenny and I took our Kayaks out to Sabine Pass for a 1/2 day trip. The tide was ripping out and probably dropped 18”-24” (mud lake was completely dry). We ended up with 9 trout the biggest was 22”’and weighed right at 4.5#. We caught 8 reds with the biggest one right at 29” and 9# on the Boga. All the fish were caught on K Wiggler Wig a Lo in The Truth and Bone Diamond. 1/4oz Jig heads fishing the scattered shell that is just south of mud lake.
Is anyone using any of the Z Man brand of soft plastics? I see Captain C.A. Richardson uses them in his Flats Class YouTube videos. I ordered a few of these https://zmanfishing.com/products/herculez
