Howdy folks, Stukey Outdoors here in the lower Laguna Madre “south parde island”. Good to see this cold snap didn't hurt the fish as no floaters have been reported to my knowledge , as our water temps were as low as 37 degrees in the bay. We had a great day of fishing, with these two fish being the at 5.18 and 6.08 pounds and many more. The ticket today was soft dines in the 'Texas chicken' and Kwiggler Wig A Lo in 'Lagunaflauge' on a 1/16 ounce 2/0 jig on the OG 'green rod' light model, just slow rolling on the bottom. Had to use a very light jighead, as a 1/8 and even a 3/32 were getting stuck in the grass. All fish were tagged and released for the Heart Institute.

Just got back home into Houston from Port Mansfield wading with Wayne Davis Port Mansfield for the past two days had a great time I recommend anyone looking to book a trip down there reach out to him very nice & knowledgeable! Day 1 water temp 63F I caught about 1 small slot red on a Kwiggkers ball tail with 1/8 weedless & friend Kevin caught some trout & reds too. Day2 water temp 58F was colder & foggy I caught 2 reds small slot & under i caught on a boogie corky floater & caught one under on softdineXL darthvader & my friend Kevin caught some trout & my dad caught 3 reds all on top water learning from Wayne for his first time using a top. I really appreciate AnglerU to able to make this happen & wayne for the experience & everything can’t wait to come back to get new pb 🎣

Baffin Bay: January 25 - 26 

Here’s my report after running trips in Baffin Bay this past weekend. To start, the good news is that I didn’t see any dead fish following water temperatures in the 40s.

On Saturday, my clients and I were greeted to 47 degree water temperatures. Our strategy was to wade in waist- to belly-deep water with scattered seagrass beds and rock formations. Initially, we observed little to no bait activity until the major feed began. As the south winds picked up and the water warmed slightly, we finally spotted a couple of mullet jumping along a color change. It was a slow day, but we managed to catch five trout (the largest weighing 4.5 pounds), a black drum, and two redfish, including one undersized fish that weighed four pounds.

Sunday proved to be much more productive, with the water warming up to 52 degrees. We noticed multiple slicks and more mullet within just 30 minutes compared to the previous day. Although we initially tried to find fish in shallower water without success, we reverted to the same strategy as the day before. This approach paid off, resulting in over 20 trout caught, though surprisingly only three were keepers. In my opinion, it seems the larger fish had not moved up shallow just yet. As with Saturday, the best bite occurred during the major feeding time and quickly tapered off afterward. All our fish were caught using either a Ball Tail Shad or a Wig-A-Lo Jr., worked slowly along the bottom.

So on Friday I am taking a boat test ride as I am thinking about getting a Freedom Patriot. An 18’ boat with a. 140 Suzuki. Adding a power pole, simrad GPS, and a trolling motor. What are some things I need to look at , to check out? Other than being on a guides boat I haven’t been on anything but a Kayak. It was/is a hard decision. Hell for the price of a boat I could book like 60 guided fishing trip. Thank you and I let you how it goes. Any advice is very appreciated.

Violent cold weather out there on the bay today. the temperature is dropping like a rock. The wind is blowing a gale and ain’t nobody foolish enough to be out there this week. Reports should be very short and sweet.

I just watched Caleb and Pat's wintertime tides and temps video. Excellent info for not overthinking the settings but "grind 'til you find" counsel.  The loon(-atics) portion was good as I see and fish near loons in Redfish Bay from park-and-wade spots. The loon photo Caleb shared is a Common Loon (truly the most common species along the Texas coast, and especially in winter although some do stay into the warm season). It is in full breeding plumage, unlike most of the wintering birds we have in Texas which are drab dark-backed with white sides and bellies, and was obviously a photo from far north as it's in full breeding plumage and holding juvenile pike or pickerel. I like the notion of using them as "bird dog birds" as what they eat is what the bigger trout are eating and the same size as many of our 4-6" lures we're also using.

Gonna get a little chilly. If you think there is any chance you have water in your motor, it’s a good idea to trim it wayyyy under, as far as it will, and jack up the front of the trailer. I can always get a little more water out that way!
